the door creaks as it opens. they try to open in slower but that only makes it creak more. the door opens into a small hallway at the foot of a large set of old stairs that will creak even more than the door just did. they walk up two at a time. as a result the added pressure pressed on each step makes the creaking even more pronounced. he holds onto the railing tight until looks at his hand and sees how white his knunckles are. he lets go and keeps going. this shouldn’t be as hard as he’s made it out to be. at his table just an hour before he got here he saw exactly what he was seeing now.

i will wash over you. a tide in direct correlation with the forces of my life that are secreted away to vast caverns in which lantern ghosts smell salt but can’t see it. a thin trail of dust floats up to the alien forces contained on the other side of the pin prick we made the week before.
